“Hanging Out” at LCA!

Wow! September has flown by!  The kids have enjoyed meeting their new friends and seeing their old friends as well.  Everyone has been working hard at learning their classroom rules, schedules, and routines.  We are so lucky to have so many amazing families joining us this year and hope that our friends who have started school this year are enjoying kindergarten! We miss them so much but know that they are ready to spread their wings and fly!

Our First Month:

Throughout the month of September, we have been exploring Clothes as our first unit from The Creative Curriculum.  During this unit we have focused on clothing features, how we take care of clothes, where we get our clothes, and what special clothing we wear.  The children have worked on identifying pieces of clothing, where we wear them, and sorting clothes (tops and bottoms, colors, by seasons etc.).  We have practiced washing clothes in our pretend washer and dryer, and matching shoes, gloves, and mittens. Finally, we have enjoyed reading SO many fun books during this unit!  Our absolute favorites being Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, and Froggy Gets Dressed.

Occupational therapy has assisted us by helping the children with letter and number formation as we study our letter and number of the week. For our young learners they have assisted with pre-writing skills such as holding and manipulating writing tools.  They have also worked with the children on gross motor skills as the kids maneuvered through motor courses, threw colored beanbags to their corresponding cone color, and discovered the motor-room.

During speech language group lessons the children have practiced answering questions about their day, identified their friends’ names and listened to Matt and Molly stories and responded to questions about the stories.  Our Matt and Molly stories have focused on social skills with friends and in the community.
