If LCA Ran the Circus!

Can I just tell you how much fun we had at circus camp?!?! This camp offered endless opportunities to pull in speech and occupational therapy and giggles galore! I mean who doesn’t love the circus?!?

A few of the MANY centers that the kids participated in throughout the two weeks were responding to wh- questions about circus pictures, creating pom-pom clowns, circus I-Spy, circus adding/subtracting/counting, Animal Cookie counting and tasting, and matching colored hats and bow ties to clowns!

Speech incorporated circus and carnival themed activities into their daily sessions! Children had the opportunity to state what activity they wanted to participate in, tell a peer it was their turn next, listen to and respond to questions about circus stories, and practice multi-step directions.

Occupational therapy provided many opportunities for gross motor circus themed activities such as ring toss, “tight rope walking” on the balance beam, throwing beanbags through a “ring of fire,” and acting out circus movements with movement cards! The children demonstrated fine motor skill to create shape juggling scenes, use eye droppers to dye cotton balls yellow to create their very own popcorn art, and practiced pre-writing and writing skills to match circus themed pictures through the use of Wikki Stix and their choice of writing utensils!

I could go on and on about the endless activities that the kids encountered throughout these two weeks! It was truly jam packed with fun, but the absolute best part was when Mrs. Erin had clowns, Scootchee and PattyCakes, show up to put on an amazing performance to end this camp session! The kids were so excited and incredibly captivated by this!

It is hard to believe that this was our last summer session! But I am already counting the days until our first day of our fall 2022-2023 school year!!!
