September was music to our ears!
September was a month of musical exploration at Little Corner Academy! Throughout the Music Creative Curriculum unit, the children learned about tempos, rhythms, loud and soft sounds and what makes a sound versus what does not make a sound. They learned what can be used to make music, different styles of music and how we can make music with our voices. We investigated what instruments can be played by hitting, tapping, or shaking them and who works with music for their jobs and what tools they use! The children had the best time exploring various instruments such as the piano, guitar, shakers, xylophones, maracas, drums and SO many more!
During this unit, the children created their own instruments such as shakers, pan flutes, clackers, bells and paper plate shakers! We painted to music, painted with drum sticks, created our own xylophones by matching sizes and colors, had our very own pots and pans band, explored a music sensory bin, practiced our scarf dancing and sang oh so many songs! One of our favorite games for this unit was playing “guess the sound!” This game involved the children listening to musical instruments and guessing what it was.
Throughout the month of September our speech pathologists helped to reinforce vocabulary for our music unit! The children also had so much fun acting out Matt and Molly stories during their speech sessions! Our amazing OT’s worked on trying new foods, following multi step directions to create musical instruments, and pre-writing skills!
